It centers on a community fighting for survival against overwhelming threats.

Everything We Know About the Skinbreaker Comic

The world of Skinbreaker introduces us to a people on the brink of total collapse. The story follows their desperate struggle as dangers close in from all sides. Enor, the tribe’s chieftain for many seasons, finds his reign nearing its end. He is the wielder of the legendary weapon known as SKINBREAKER. However, his advanced age makes it difficult to even lift the mighty weapon. This creates a power vacuum and immense uncertainty for his people.

Furthermore, his heir, Anok, is reluctant to take his place. The future of their entire civilization hangs in the balance. Will Anok step up before their world is consumed by ruin? A bloody power struggle ignites within the tribe. As if internal conflict wasn’t enough, a far greater threat emerges from the darkness beyond their village. This combination of internal strife and external menace sets a tense and dramatic stage. Kirkman describes the series as “unrelentingly brutal but also contains a ton of emotion and heart.” He promises a story that will both shock readers and move them. David Finch expressed his own passion for the project, calling it a “labour of love.” He stated that the story resonated deeply with him and that bringing it to life has been a career privilege. This level of dedication from both creators suggests that the Skinbreaker comic will be a meticulously crafted work. The publisher, Skybound, through SVP Sean Mackiewicz, has dubbed this the finest work of Finch’s masterful career. High praise, indeed. Mackiewicz elaborated, stating, “Together Robert Kirkman and David have created a savage, new world full of wonders and creatures that have to be seen to be believed.”

Kirkman himself added more praise for his collaborator. “David Finch is one of the greatest comic artists to ever live,” he stated. “This is the artist who made Moon Knight outsell Batman.” He believes the art in Skinbreaker is historic and that it must be seen to be believed.

To celebrate this monumental release, the series will launch with an array of stunning comic book covers. The main cover is by David Finch himself, with variants from superstars like Ryan Ottley, Tony Moore, Lorenzo De Felici, and Eric Canete. For the serious collector, there will be high-ratio incentive covers, including a 1:1000 CGC graded and signed edition and a 1:2500 original art sketch cover from Finch. For those who want to experience the art in a grand format, a special Treasury Edition will also be available, presenting the story in an oversized 10″ x 14″ format.

The world of comics is always evolving, and a series like this from such a top-tier team is a significant event. It represents the kind of bold storytelling and artistic excellence that keeps the medium fresh and exciting for everyone, from longtime fans to new readers.

The first issue of the eight-part series, Skinbreaker #1, is set to release on Wednesday, September 24, 2025. It will be available in physical comic book shops and on digital platforms.
